.. Hi everyone, all things horsey are keeping on keeping on in the Main St.
of Hahndorf. The 4 Feet First attraction for some years now has been
showing up 1 or 2 days a week to give all who visit the town an opportunity to get up close
and personal with our friendly community horse named after the late Ellie, Elliott. At the same time people might be able to contribute to the 4 Feet First pet food pledges. Part proceeds of our horsey attraction go into to the tummies of
animals in need with any spare going towards my wing man Elliott, the star of the
show, being looked after.
Since the fundraisers began 4 Feet First have
pledged and delivered/receipted just shy of 14 tonnes of pet food representing 35,000, 400 gram tins of wet food or the dry food weight equivalent. We make a pledge promise and keep it. This can't be done without the support of the food suppliers out there providing us with special bulk prices for the food we deliver, a huge hats off to them! The 4 Feet First attraction is all about give and take, just the other way round and back again. A big shout out and thankyou to all who believe and support what were doing out there animal welfare wise and beyond, we will continue to 'pay it forward' for as long as we're of some use around the place.
Hope to see you all up here in them thar hills ! Next food delivery for the shelters, 16th September, ooh roo, Richard
5.08 25 .. Hi all, I've updated the 'A Horse's Legacy' page for anyone interested, Richard
23.03.25 .. The 4 Feet First attraction is bouncing back with Elliott, after 2 years of training doing his first 'rides for the kids' on Sunday. Everyone just loves him. The community spirit is alive and well in Hahndorf both on and off the field thats for sure. Ellie's looking on giving everyone her blessings. Hats off to all who support us in one way or t'other. I'll be keepin' on keepin' it real for as long as we're of some use around the place. The next yearly pledge for the animal shelters is about to be posted on the fundraiser page. Thanks to all who donate to our very worthy cause helping out all the animals, dogs cats and natives. ooh roo, Richard
8.03.25 .. Hi all, well what a month it's been, still very dry unfortunately. Thank goodness the rains are just round the corner. All is going ok at the 4 Feet First attraction side of things, but just ok really. All these hot weekends are throwing us out a bit but we'll catch up somewhere down the track. Last years pet food pledge has been nailed. Hats off to all for the continued support. Next years pledge will be bigger and better than the last. We'll update in a couple of weeks with the details and create the new Canometer on the fundraiser page. Seems the world's going a bit crazy here and there. Be kind, take care and look after each other out there in them thar hills and beyond, ooh roo, Richard
5.02.25 .. Hi all, all is going to plan my end with all things horsey, sort of. The weather's been knocking it around a bit with the hotter days falling on the Saturday and Sundays this year. Too hot to be carting chicken mince around too. I've extended the deadline for this years pledge to the end of Feb 2025. Hats off to everyone I rub shoulders with for your continued support with our little attraction with a big heart in the corner there. We'll keep on keeping on aiming high for a positive result on and off the field.
I had a bloke come up to me at the stand telling me his chilling story about the circumstances surrounding the recent un-necessary painful death of his beloved horse. I could tell this bloke was broken and gave him an unconditional listening ear on the day. As a longish term farrier still kickin' in the field I believe this blokes story needs to be put out there for all horse owners who may want to seriously consider what he's had to say about a small isolated group within the vet industry who seem to be upsetting the balance by putting the $$ before the horse, then boasting about how many $$ they made out of their last client. I was truly shocked by it all and I've seen some sights. Is this really going on out there ? Richard
11.01.25 .. A few folk have been asking why the horsey attraction hasn't been in town for a couple of Sunday's just lately. With animal welfare in front of mind, if the weather's over 32 degrees Ellliot gets to snooze away under the nearest gumtree. With Elliott's long lunches in Hahndorf going for a couple of hours, sometimes if the forecast's close we come in a bit earlier kicking off at 11am, like tomorrow:) Hope to see you up here in them thar hills !
1.01.25 .. Hi all, Richard ere' ... The 4 Feet Fundraiser is right on target to nail this years pledge by the end of Jan25. A new 'a horses legacy' pledge for 2025/26 is coming. The horse will be watching closer than we could ever imagine nodding her head at every step while Elliott gets the job done. Hats off to all who have chipped in both on the front line and behind the scenes with all that we're putting out there both with the Farrier and entertainment side. Ooh roo !
24.12.24 .. Well here's Christmas again ! Hope everyone has a good one with whatever you're up to. Don't forget to say a prayer for someone in amongst all the ruckus. Hats off to all out there who've supported farrier boy over the past years while he's of some use around the place. I'll be payin' it forward, ooh roo Richard xo
8.12.24 .. Mornin'.. Just a quick heads up! Farrier boy's got the man flu today so Elliott can go back to sleep under the gumtree. We'll be back next weekend with all things horsey. Have a great Sunday everyone, ooh roo Richard
10.11.24 .. Hi all, all things horsey in Hahndorf is business as usual. Elliott, with Ellie watching over him is almost there, I'm getting asked a lot when the rides and horseshoeing demonstrations are coming back. It won't be long now. In the meantime everyone can enjoy Elliott's company while he's in town bringing joy to all who come to meet him.
15.10.24 .. The 4 Feet First attraction is getting on with it sort of with a few extra appearances in town while Elliott's still on his learner plates. The next pet food delivery for the shelters is scheduled for around the middle of November 24. Hats off to those out there for your kind offers of support and understanding while I get it all sorted. ooh roo, Richard
31.7.24 .. Hi all, Richard ere' .. all things 4 Feet First in Hahndorf and beyond is business as usual, sort of. The fundraiser side is on target running on the smell of an oily rag right now. We managed to deliver another 170kg of chicken mince up to the Hahndorf Shelter a few weeks back, check out the fundraiser page canometer on this site for updates! I dip my hat to all who support what I'm trying to achieve while everything that's going on is going on. Things will be back to 'normal' soon. The farrier side is steady as she goes. I'm really happy and feel blessed with the genuine horse, pony and donkey owners I have on my client base who know what a balanced hoof is and how to achieve it. ooh roo
12.7.24 .. I'm feeling the love around town and beyond right now in most part from most people while others are watching. Hats off for your continued support. Your all true legends to me, kumbaya, Richard
21.6.24 .. Hi everyone, well its been a while since an update, busy times getting ready for the winter wonderland in Hahndorf. I'm feelin' the love all around town right now, both on and off the field. Hats off to everyone for the continued support. The 4 Feet First attraction and its owner are recharging the batteries and it's all systems go. Wont be long and we'll be at the 15 year mark operating on the main st. in Hahndorf. I'm lookin' forward to the next 15 while we're still of some use around the place. Throw on an extra layer, it's winter in Hahndorf where the home fires are burning and the hearts are warm-er. Hope to see you up here in them thar hills ! ooh roo Richard
1.05.24 .. Well we've been flat out like lizards drinkin' getting ready for the cooler months up in the hills. It's a great time of year to throw on an extra layer and come on up or over. A few have asked me if Im getting the fireplace going again this year. Yep, but it'll be smokeless! Over the coming weeks I'll be converting the heater to a beautiful gas log fire for all to enjoy. I've got all the bits, just need to drill some holes and off we go. The new fundraiser is underway with our first delivery a few weeks back. (check out the new Canometer on the 4 Feet Fundraiser page). Have a great time out there where you can, be kind and I can't wait to see you all up here in them thar hills. Cheers Richard :)
Ps: While Sir Elliott's still in training/getting used to things we'll only be coming into town between 12 and 2pm every Sunday for all things horsey.
25.03.24 .. Hi all, the 23/24 yearly pledge is done and dusted. Thanks everyone who has something to do with what we do in and around Hahndorf ! The extra help with the fundraiser has been well received.
Over the next year the farrier side will be business as usual, the fundraiser side of things will continue albeit with a bit of a twist. All things 4 Feet First will continue to pay it forward with Elliott having some very big hooves to fill. He's doing so well getting used to the limelight, slowly. The time he spends on the street will be up to him. Being a farrier for a little while now I've learnt over the years how to read these magnificent animals while at work so to avoid one sitting on me, or worse ! Elliott is still happy to come into town for his long lunch and after just 9 months he's starting to hang around for dessert. He'll put in a couple of hours before I get the signals to take him home, usually when his belly's full ! Even with this halving of time on the street then donations cut in half along with it, I'm sure Elliott's other four legged friends in the shelters will be still be cheering him on while he gets the hang of it.
The next years pledge is underway but I'm going to have to take a step back on this one then go a few steps forward for the next one. There's a couple of reasons for this. One is Elliott's still got his L's on. The other being yours truly, after 9 months of settling down due to circumstances, this years pet food pledge will be reigned in to 3,500/ 400 gram tins of quality pet food or the weight equivalent in wet and dry food delivered to the Hahndorf Interim Animal Shelter and Minton Farm Native Animal Rescue Centre between February 2024 and February 2025.
Hope to see you all up here in them thar hills ! ooh roo Richard
7.3.24 .. Although all things Hahndorf will be pumping over the weekend, when the temperature is 32 or over the 4 Feet First horses get the Sunday off for a sleep under the gumtree. It's going to be a lot hotter than that, so its a no brainer. We'll be back next Sunday (weather permitting)
